About

In between skiing days, Wayward Kin was started as a hobby by Annica Danko in the mid 2010s. Driven by creativity, Annica crafted custom sweaters for friends, family, and herself for years as a creative outlet to pass the time between last call and first lift. The hobby turned into a passion, a passion turned into a vocation, and the vocation led Annica to learn more about the textile industry as a whole. This led her to Europe in 2019 and 2023 to learn more about the larger textile industry, and has cemented a curiosity for how humans interact with the natural world, use clothing and artwork to express themselves, and how they use these indicators to connect with social circles.

For many years, Wayward Kin was a brand name for only the sewn clothing and knit or crochet accessories that fit nicely adjacent to the ski industry. Become attached to the name and less so to that strict business structure however, WK will be the space for sharing all of her creative explorations moving forward.

Annica and her creations under Wayward Kin are based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, and traditional territory of the Homalco, Sliammon, We Wai Kai, We Wai Kum, K'ómoks and Coast Salish people.
