A Brief Recognition

Recognition

Three months ago, on May 6th, I experienced the difficulty of losing an animal that felt like a soul mate. I had the honour of being Scouts guardian for 1 year, 8 months, and 18 days of her too short life, she would have turned two along with her sister Siuan (pronounced swɑn) on May 31st. Scout passed from a heart condition she likely had since birth, that had gone undiagnosed by her vets and I until it was too much for her.

I want to honour Scouts life, and the unmeasurable impact she has had on me. While I'm not ready just yet to write our her story further, which I do believe is necessary for my own healing, I am wanting to re-launch my website which has shared my creative outlets in the past. Sewing and other creative forms have been a lifeline for me, a means to joys and connections that have helped to make it all worthwhile through life's difficulties. Over these past few months, I've been thinking a lot about the importance of connection, and the fleeting time we have to experience it all. Every season holds so much that can be experienced, and with age each one seems to flash by quicker than the last, even when some days feel like they may take forever.

Its easier to write about art than it is to write about Scout right now, which is why I'll wait a little longer to tell her story. I'm sure that those who have had the wonderment of unconditional love from an animal you would truly do anything for, know the depth in which they attach themselves to your heart. Grief does not have a timeline, and I'm simply choosing to explore joy and creativity along side my grief. I believe that artwork, in its endless forms, is an incredibly important part of the human experience. Community is also, and artwork tends to connect us more deeply.

While I have disliked the commodification of social media over the past 10 years, I do see the power of the online space to be a connector, so I am bringing my site back as a means to share. If stuff is for sale and you don't have funds but it speaks to you, please send me a message and perhaps we can arrange a trade of some sort. The platform I am using is store based, due to past employment it makes the most sense for me to keep things here as the cost for keeping the site running are the best I'll get. While I will be sharing things that are for sale, some I'll simply be sharing cause they were fun projects and I hope to use the blog feature more as well, although this platform isn't designed as blog focused so it will be a bit of a learning curve for the presentation.
